Description of the Test:

The Standard General Reasoning International Test (S-GRIT) is a timed cognitive reasoning test designed to measure the trait of General Reasoning, with sub-scores available to assess Verbal and Numerical Reasoning, which are described as "the ability to understand and manipulate words and numbers", and Spatial Reasoning, which is described as "the ability to use and visualise shapes and diagrams". The measure was developed in conjunction with Human Factors International's General Reasoning International Test - Version 4 (GRIT-4), itself a test structured around the three dimensional model of intelligence suggested by the Guilford model which proposes that there are 120 types of task that can be represented within an intellectual test. The GRIT model eliminates those tasks that measure practical intelligence and those that measure skill based mental operations. This test was designed as an international test where "every item was scrutinised for potential linguistic and cultural biases". It is available in Arabic, Dutch, UK English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish versions. S-GRIT is both an online (internet-based) and a pencil and paper based psychometric tool, which is made up of 30 questions or items. The verbal, numerical and spatial questions are rotated in sequence so that there are 10 verbal questions, 10 numerical questions and 10 spatial questions. For each question, respondents have to select one from five options to indicate their correct answer. There are 6 example questions to complete before the start of the test and the time limit for the test is 15 minutes. Scoring using the online system is automatically completed whereas for those using the paper and pencil version, scoring takes about 3 minutes using the answer sheet in conjunction with a scoring key. Raw scores for the three sub-scales, and the Total scale, are then normed using the appropriate Norm table, and the results expressed in terms of percentiles and a five-band (A to E) grade system. Additional support materials for the user include a comprehensive user manual and technical guide which itself covers administration instructions, norming (comparative) data, sample reports and technical information about the test. All the paper and pencil documents, except the answer sheet, are re-usable. For online administration, scoring and report generation is an automatic process, with the test user receiving the appropriate report soon after administration is complete. S-GRIT measures general reasoning ability in an occupational setting, particularly for selection and short-listing and for use in counselling and career guidance. The test is aimed at all adults whose job requires more than basic intellectual ability. This would include managers, project managers, consultants and graduates.
