Description of the Test
The tests have been developed from research and job analysis specifically to measure the competencies of junior managers. There are two measures of reasoning ability (verbal and numerical), which can be used together or separately. The questions are based on real-life situations in the fictitious work context of a light engineering company. Previous commercial experience and knowledge of technical vocabulary, other than that required of an applicant for a first job, are not necessary in order to do the tests. The verbal test has three sub-sections, separately timed and scored. These measure the ability to derive valid information from a formal document, the ability to assess the influence new information may have on current beliefs, and the ability to determine what people must be assuming on the basis of what they say. The numerical test assesses the ability to extract and manipulate data from an information sheet, and make interpretations that a manager would have to make.
