Description of the Test
The CRTB consists of three individual tests which are designed to assess reasoning skills at junior management level. They are aimed primarily at A level school leavers, but can be used with a broader range of candidates, including good GCSE groups and all but the highest-level graduate groups. Verbal Evaluation (VC1.1) aims to measure the ability to understand and evaluate the logic of arguments presented in written passages; Interpreting Data (NC2.1) aims to measure the ability to make correct decisions or inferences from numerical data; and Diagrammatic Series (DC3.1) aims to measure the ability to reason logically and involves the recognition of logical sequences within a series of diagrams or symbols. The tests have been used for a wide variety of groups including office supervisors, senior personal assistants, sales and customer services staff. DC3.1 is suitable for occupations requiring logical or analytical reasoning (e.g. computer programming). In difficulty level, they are pitched a little below the Management and Graduate Item Bank (MGIB), one of SHLs tests for graduates and middle to senior managers. The tests were first published in 1982 and revised in 1991. The content of DC3.1 is unchanged compared with its precursor DC3, while the information in NC2.1 was updated from NC2, and a range of items (approximately one-third of the test) were revised in VC1.1 to update and make the test more strongly work focused. Over 30 sets of norms are presented for scales from the two editions of the test. In the case of VC1.1 most of these are calibrated from those available for VC1.
